Western Michigan Expungement Lawyers Who Can Clear Your Record and Set Aside Convictions

A criminal record can prevent you from getting a job, a promotion or a place to live. It can make you ineligible to own a gun, and preclude your admission to graduate school or the military. A conviction on your record can put your professional license in jeopardy if you are a doctor, lawyer, dentist, stockbroker, commercial driver or other licensed professional.

Expungement can clear your record — but only once and only in certain circumstances. Expungement is the legal process of setting aside a conviction. After an expungement, you can legally answer "NO" to the question: "Have you ever been convicted of a crime?"

Expungement is an important means of protecting your future, especially when it comes to seeking employment or educational opportunities, including scholarships.

If you were convicted of a crime or accepted a plea agreement, the attorneys of The Aggressive Criminal Defense Law Firm may be able to secure the expungement of the charge from your criminal record. Expungement can make a world of difference to you in the future. Please contact the law offices of The Aggressive Criminal Defense Law Firm in Kalamazoo, Paw Paw, or Grand Rapids and tell us about your situation.

A One-Time Opportunity

The law allows certain misdemeanor and felony convictions to be expunged five years after the date of sentence or five years after the completion of any prison term, whichever is later.

You can only expunge one conviction. Five years after completing the sentence, a felony burglary conviction can be set aside. If you were convicted of two misdemeanors, such as shoplifting and assault, you cannot expunge both convictions no matter how long you wait. Traffic violations, such as drunk driving, cannot be expunged.

Working to Change Michigan's Expungement Law

Our lawyers have advocated with state legislators to change Michigan's expungement law to make it more reasonable, and to allow individuals with more than one conviction to seek an expungement.

Not every conviction can be expunged. To discuss your specific circumstances, please contact our office by e-mail or call toll free at 888-211-4326 . From offices in Kalamazoo, Paw Paw and Grand Rapids, we represent clients throughout western Michigan.
